Cardiff

Welcome to the web pages for Cardiff.

I have been the Disability Sport Wales Officer for Sport.Cardiff for 10 years and have been involved in disability sport for as long as I can remember.

As a wheelchair user myself, I have a strong background in disability sport as a participant, coach, manager and committee member. I regularly take part in badminton, and coach wheelchair basketball and sledge ice hockey.

I have used many of my personal experiences in disability sport to help me in providing high quality, local sporting opportunities for adults and children with learning, sensory and physical disabilities.

There are a wide range of sports and activities on offer throughout the daytime and evenings so most people can find a recreational activity to suit them. Whether you are looking for a healthy lifestyle, to socialise and make new friends, keep fit, or strive to be a future participant in the Paralympics, Deaflympics or Special Olympics there should be something out there for you.

If you would like further information on disability sport in Cardiff then just give me a call or send me an email. You can also ask to be added to my mailing list to ensure you are one of the first to hear of all the latest local sporting developments.

If you are interested in being a participant, coach, volunteer or sponsor, I am looking forward to hearing from you (contact details bottom left of this page).

Wheelchair Sports Spectacular

June 2010

A record number of participants are expected at The "Spectacular" 2010 thanks largely to sponsorship once again from the Rotary Club of Cardiff Bay and Cardiff University.

Why not come along and join the fun at the event on Friday 18th or Saturday 19th of June.

Paralmpians including Pippa Britton will be in attendance to inspire people to get involved. So if you fancy some archery tips from Pippa then why not come along

Archery is just one of the twenty sports on offer at NIAC, UWIC, Cyncoed Campus, CF23 6XD from 10am to 4pm each day.

Other sports include boccia, wheelchair basketball, table tennis, wheelchair tennis, fencing, karate, wheelchair rugby, and golf.

The event targets physically disabled people who are either wheelchair users or might use a wheelchair for sport although anyone is welcome to attend and try the sports.

Suitable for all ages and ability levels, the "Spectacular" aims to provide people with information on local clubs that they might want to join after trying the sports.

For further details on this event call Joanna on 029 2087 3935 or use the "In Your Area" section on the website and select "Cardiff" and send an email.

Cardiff Huskies sledge hockey team were back on the ice last Sunday with a record attendance of 16 participants.

This Winter Paralympic sport is a seated version of ice hockey which is particularly suitable for physically disabled people although anyone can play at club level, including non-disabled people.

If you would like to try this fast exciting sport then contact Joanna on 029 2087 3935 or use the "In Your Area" section on the website and select "Cardiff" and send an email.

All kit and equipment will be supplied by the club wherever possible. All you need is enough upper body strength to propel the sledge using the two shortened hockey sticks provided. They have sharp metal teeth which dig into the ice to help you move the sledge across the ice.
